إن فرع الهندسة الكيميائية هو من أهم فروع الهندسة التكنولوجية الحديثة ، وهو علم هندسي يختص بتصميم وتطوير العمليات الصناعية الكيميائية أو التحويلية، كما أن الهندسة الكيميائية تهتم ببناء وتصميم وإدارة المصانع التي تكون العملية الأساسية فيها هي التفاعلات الكيميائية.
وتندرج تحت تخصص هندسة الكيميائية عمليات انتقال المادة والحرارة، والكتلة، بالإضافة إلى ذلك فإنها تشمل التفاعلات وعمليات الفصل متعددة المراحل .
وتعد الهندسة الكيميائية من التخصصات المهمة والتي تحظى برغبة العديد من الطلاب بدراستها، وذلك نظرا للمميزات الكثيرة في هذه الهندسة واتساع مجالها في الحياة، حيث توفر هذه الهندسة العديد من فرص العمل لطلابها، كما أن هناك متعة كبيرة في دراستها فهي تجمع بين متعة العمل في المختبرات وإنشاء المصانع وتشغيلها.
وسيتم تأهيل الطلاب الدارسين في قسم الهندسة الكيميائية ليكونوا قادرين على العمل في مجالات واسعة ضمن هذا الاختصاص التكنولوجي ومن أهم هذه المجالات الصناعات الكيميائية عموماً والصناعات النفطية و البتروكيميائية و تقانة النانو وتقانة البوليميرات و معالجة المياه والبيئة بالإضافة للعمل البحثي والأكاديمي لمن يرغب في ذلك خاصة وأن أغلب الطلاب المتخرجين من هذا القسم قد قبلوا مبدئيا لدراسة الماجستير في الجامعات التركية.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the International University of Sham aims to achieve a high academic standard and graduate distinguished engineers capable of continuous learning through distinguished academic specializations and programs that meet the technical needs of industrial institutions and service providers and contribute to sustainable development in Syria's future.
The department seeks to develop its research into applied aspects that contribute to serving society, developing the environment, and addressing its technical issues.
The department strives to foster and encourage an academic environment that enables students to develop their capacity for innovation, learn professional ethics and morals, and develop a sense of responsibility toward society.

Achievements and activities of the department over the past years
- Developing institutional assessment systems for educational effectiveness, institutional capacity, and quality management.
- Developing educational programs and curriculum.
- Developing laboratories: (building materials laboratories, soil laboratory, chemistry laboratory, mobile laboratory for water analysis).
- Agreeing with the Azaz Local Council to accredit Al-Sham University as an official body for testing building materials, soil, and water analysis.
- Agreeing with ACTED to conduct periodic analyses of water samples sent by them.
What are the expected jobs for the graduate?
- Water desalination and treatment units.
- Various industries: pharmaceuticals, food, fertilizers and pesticides, plastics, oil, and metals.
- Oil refineries, cement, glass, and ceramics.
- Solid waste treatment and refining.
